First time I remember seeing Umbreon in the anime was with Gary Oak. In the games and anime, Gary was a jerk! I was concerned for his little Eevee. But Gary trains his Eevee up right into an Umbreon and continues to do good. At least I'm assuming so. I gave up on watching the anime, the Orange Islands. When Brock wasn't there it didn't feel right.
The Kimono Sisters also have the Eevees, Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Umbreon and Espeon. Much like the Eevee Brothers when it was just Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon. Now there are new Eevee types (Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon) and so far not another group to go with them. There are other trainers who have an Umbreon but honestly I'm not familiar with them. I play the pokemon games and that's about it.
Since I play the games, I first saw Umbreon in Gold and Silver. He was really cute and my sister, Snow, liked Espeon more. I generally always pick the type advantage. Squirtle to her Charmander, Umbreon to Espeon, Jolteon to Vaporeon. And let me tell you a thing, it doesn't matter. Even if I have the type advantage I cannot beat her. But that's okay, cause I don't really like battling anyway.
