Sano is the captain of the tenth division for the Shinsengumi. He is laid back and carefee. Sano also doesn't mind sneaking out of work to go to the red light district, Shimabara. However, he does have a bit of a somber side that one doesn't get to see often. Like when Toudou gets turned into a Fury or when he decides to leave the Shinsengumi.
Sano is first met at the beinging when Yukimura is tied up in a room and planing on escaping or staying. He also forms a rivalry with Shiranui, one of Kazama's boys. He is generally seen with Nagahara Shinpachi and Toudou Heisuke.
