♆ Water

Go with the flow... and challenge the currents!

Water can be used as a weapon in many ways, it can drown people, it can push structures to collapse, and if shot with enough pressure it can have a bullet-like effect. Although wind is a big part of a serious storm, water plays an important role too. To put it simply, water is not to be underestimated, yet it is also vital for survival.

In many video games, especially RPGs, characters with the water element are associated with healing. An example of this is Marle, from Chrono Trigger. We also see this outside of games, such as how the water element in the Avatar animated series is associated with healing. The ronin are invigorated by their respective elements, for instance, setting Ryo on fire actually heals him. However, we do see some of the association of water with healing in Cye. He was the most reluctant to fight during the second OVA, Legend of the Inferno Armor. As they say, before you can start healing, you have to stop fighting.

Though the ronin were fighting in self defense, Cye still didn't like the idea of the fighting not coming to an end as he hoped. When Ryo got captured by Mukala and Sage was dragged along with him, Cye perceived that his friends were being drawn more deeply into a seemingly endless cycle of battles and that prevented him from uniting his power with theirs. Later, with Ryo and Sage missing, Rowen, Kento and Cye regrouped with Mia to come up with a plan, and Kento confronted Cye about his inaction. This caused him to admit that he was tired of the fighting and of seeing his friends getting hurt.

Though it may initially seem that Cye was being selfish, I don't think that's really the case. He gives me the impression of being the most gentle of the ronin, and it was his concern for his friends that paralyzed him when Mukala took Ryo and Sage away. After spending some time with White and Black Blaze, and realizing that the armors were trying to separate from the virtues their users represent, Cye regrouped with the other ronin. By then, Ryo, Sage, Kento and Rowen had unsuccessfully faced off against Mukala and fallen ill. Cye used his bond with the other ronin and shared his energy with them to heal them.

Water is said to be an emotional element, which Cye has shown he can be. Though he is generally calm, he can blow up if pushed to a particularly emotional state. Water is also presented as the element of transition, which is also reflected in Legend of the Inferno Armor. Cye realized that it was time for the ronin to end the battles, which culminated with the destruction on their old armor... Although they do get new armor later.
