A mystical man, stern and upright while at the same time dark and mysterious. His past connection with ShinRa, Inc. is what made him join Cloud and the others. He may seem frail at first glance, but hidden inside his body lurks a fearsome power. (Square Soft, 1997)

In Final Fantasy VII, this man is asleep in a coffin in the basement of the Shinra Mansion. Why? Simply because he believes he committed a sin so horrible that he must punish himself by sleeping for all eternity. He let the woman he loved become a human experiment, of course it was her choice and not Vincent's fault at all but telling him that is a lost cause. Eventually he will get out of the coffin and go with Cloud.

Vincent is an optional character of Final Fantasy VII. You must venture to Nibelhiem and go into the Shinra Mansion. Here is a walkthrough of how get Vincent.

Dirge of Cerberus
In Dirge of Cerberus, the player controls Vincent. You learn a lot about Vincent's past and the woman he onced loved, Lucrezia Cresent. Yes the very same woman that he shut himself in a coffin for. The same woman that I believe that betrayed him. Vincent has the power to transform into beast when his limit break meter fills up, Galiant Beast, Hellmasker, Death Gigas and finall Chaos. The first three Hojo put into Vincent's body and the last was done by Lucrezia to save his life. Of course she felt guilty after words and incased herself in a crystal mako coffin after she gave birth to her only son, Sephiroth. The experiment that Vincent was against.

Vincent is the main playable character in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and was a hidden character in Final Fantasy VII. Located in the basement of the Shinra Mansion, players learned about his 23-year slumber. Vincent relies heavily on the use of long-range weapons (guns) and prefers none more than his triple-barrel handgun, Cerberus. In addition to being an expert marksman, Vincent can also transform into creatures known as the Galian Beast and Chaos.

Originally a gun-slinging member of the Turks, back in the days when Shinra Electric Power Company was known as the Shinra Manufacturing. The mad scienting Hojo transformed his body into the aberration it is today. His lon slumber in a coffin below the Shinra Manor came to an end three years ago, when he was awakened by Cloud and joined him on his quest. (Square Enix, 2006)

Crisis Core
Vincent does not really make an appearance in Crisis Core. While the player can chose to do the "Seven Wonders of Nibelhiem" and go through the quests, you will not actually see Vincent's face. Also, if you have not played Final Fantasy VII you may not know that it is Vincent sleeping in the coffin that you find in the basement of the Shinra Mansion during this quest.
